Have you done all you can?

Posted October 12th, 2010 by Jim Ettwein

“You and I have a rendezvous with destiny. We will preserve for our children this, the last best hope of man on earth, or we will sentence them to take the first step into a thousand years of darkness. If we fail, at least let our children and our children’s children say of us we justified our brief moment here. We did all that could be done.”

I am appreciating this man’s passion and love for his country much too late in my life. My priorities (family and work) during his term left little time to be too concerned about politics, or maybe it was because we were in competent hands. Speeches came from his heart and soul, not from puppeteers and teleprompters.
Let’s get back to checks and balances and the Constitution!

“…maybe it was because we were in competent hands”

Exactly! After those four horrible years under the peanut farmer we were suddenly in the hands of a caring thinking adult again. For the next twelve years we could relax, knowing our leader was a thinking patriot.

Then the next generation of young know-it-all raised in safety whippersnappers decided that Bubba was their hot ticket. They even liked and related to his being a pot-smoking draft dodger who cheated on his wife at the office. They were even foolish enough to believe that he was making them rich.

So after GW kept us safe for seven years, yet another generation of know-it-alls was willing to risk their inheritance – our Young Republic – on the charming smile and empty slogan of the Kenyan Socialist deconstructor. Now 10% of them are unemployed and their 401Ks are at risk of being nationalized. Well, they got “Change”!

Amen, Flick. When Reagan was elected I was still a Democrat and I thought the country was doomed. How wrong I was and I am proud to admit that.
