Connecticut Bites The Bullet

A Democrat has to LAY OFF union employees.

As of the 2010 Census, Connecticut had 3,518,288 people.
1.3% of them (46,290 people) are full-time state employees – most in unions.

Governor Dan Malloy is sending 4,742 of them pink slips. Connecticut is short of cash!

Governor Dan, a Democrat – has been in talks with the unions SEBAC – but they don’t want to accept a pay freeze and a change to a more cost-effective medical plan.  Now some 10.2% of them are going on ‘vacation’ where they’ll collect $555 / week.

Basic economics can be tough to understand for union employees in our third smallest state. Along the shore of Long Island Sound from Greenwich to New Haven they see the lavish mansions and expansive corporate headquarters of the affluent. “Tax the rich” comes quickly to mind.

But just north along the river valleys are the empty mill towns that are struggling with populations of illegals, drugs, gangs, and now multi-generational unemployment. Frankly some of these towns make you think of Massachusetts.

No ‘rich’ to tax here, just empty factories.

Eastern Connecticut is more wooded, and more agricultural. Nobody is making money here. Even the big submarine shipbuilding facility in New London is going into mothballs. Your ‘peace dividend’ means unemployment.

Is it just me, or does 1.3% seem like too many people working for the state?

With just 5543 sq miles, Connecticut is feeding 8.4 state employees per square mile. Mind you, this does NOT count their Federal, County, and Municipal employees.

Do you think any of these 4,742 laid-off employees might start to rethink New Haven’s illegal immigrant sanctuary program – complete with ID cards?  An estimated 115,000 illegals live in Connecticut.
