Civil War Starts: 158 Years Ago Today

Posted January 9th, 2019 by Iron Mike

Lincoln had been elected – not yet inaugurated,  South Carolina had seceded on December 20th just 20 days before, – and rumors were running wild.  Headstrong young Southern Democrats start the Civil War.

Cadets from the Citadel moved cannon to Morris Island – and took it upon themselves to fire upon The Star of the West,  – a government supply ship attempting to resupply Fort Sumter.  And thus began America’s bloodiest war – which is still being felt in many American cities today.

Then on Friday morning, 12 April 1861,  Confederate guns opened up on Fort Sumter itself, battering it. Sumter surrendered the next day.

As we watch the antics of newly elected Democrats in Congress today,  – we should reflect that our bloodiest war was begun by headstrong teenage cadets who could never have foreseen the consequences of their actions.

Too bad this History isn’t being taught in our schools today,  but the Socialists and Globalists who control the teacher unions don’t want your kids educated.

Uneducated voters are much easier to manipulate.

    Excellent history lesson IM.

Pres. Trump did not lower the boom last night as people expected. But he did goad Frick and Frack into one of the more ill advised counter responses we’ll ever see. Chuck and Nancy wanna give a few TEMPORARILY displaced Federales their back pay more than the employees themselves – including Border security – want. And clearly more than Chuck and Nancy want to protect Americans. My question – why aren’t more Republicans in front of Nancy and Chuck’s walled in gated castles demanding our wall, while they have theirs?

Seeing Chuck and Nancy give the post address speech all I could see was the painting “American Gothic” without the pitchfork. By the way, is it me or is Nancy spending so much time listening to the nonsense of Maxine Waters that her hollow and hardened expression is morphing into Maxine’s.

Beginning in the mid 1850’s there was conflict between abolitionists and slave holders in the territory of Kansas where they burned each other’s houses down and beat each other up, kinda like ANTIFA, BLM, etc. today. HOW LONG WILL IT BE BEFORE THE SHOOTING STARTS THIS TIME?!?!?

Excellent history lesson. I knew Fort Sumter was where the Civil War started, but didnt realize it was young cadets.

Fwiw, there is terrific Lincoln Presidential Museum in Springfield, IL. Excellent Civil War exhibits.

Glad to see your history is correct. Many refute that the cadets from The Citadel fired the first shots of the Civil War as the Star of the West was attempting to resupply Fort Sumter.
