Obama “Salutes” Caskets

Posted October 29th, 2009 by Iron Mike

Alright Americans, my skepticism and sarcasm may drip off this page. At midnight last night Obama took the less expensive ride – aboard Marine One – to Dover AFB – with an AP photographer in tow, – to be seen saluting the returning remains of our warriors killed Monday in Afghanistan.

Midnight at Dover AFB

Midnight at Dover AFB

You are supposed to get the White House message: “He cares. He cares deeply. As he ponders our next move in South Asia, – he is thinking of the consequences. He really cares.”

This was masterful stagecraft.  The soldiers performing this duty probably paid him scant attention, – because they are carrying their brothers-in-arms. They do care. They’re not trying to get socialized medicine pushed through a corrupt Congress, – they’re not trying to bankrupt the country, – and they’re not planning a Nobel acceptance speech or their next fundraiser. They’re trying to show real respect for fallen comrades.

OBummer was hammered in the press and in the blogs – including here in RRB,  for his grandiose use of Jacksonville AFB Monday as a political stage.  People saw through his cheap trick to bill most of his fundraising flights to the Air Force: – land,  give a lame hollow speech in front of a giant flag, then go on to a BIG $$ fundrai$er in Maimi, and another one on the way back in Norfolk on Tuesday.   OBummer has been hanging with Kerry a lot lately, probably getting lessons from the ‘master’ on using troops as stage props.

And all this while – no decision on sending over those 40,000 troops that General McChrystal needs.  Today yet another stalling tactic – Obama wants to see a providence-by-providence breakdown and analysis. Maybe he thinks war is like a ward-by-ward fix in a crooked Chicago election.

Remember the REAL Obama

    Iron Mike,

Nice blog! But I’ve got to take issue with a couple of ideas. Do you think that a president should never take the time to consider authorizing what a general wants? What do you think the end-game is in Afghanistan that 40,000 troops could accomplish? I would take a few seconds before I sent 40,000 of our kids into the Graveyard of Empires with no clear plan.

Also, if Congress is corrupt, which it is, it’s corrupted by lobbyists and money of the health insurance industry, who hate the idea of the public option. Therefore if corruption influences decisions on the issue of health reform, it will be to kill the public option. So in this instance, maybe corruption is working in your favor if you don’t like the public option.

    Have a good one

    Well Ryan,

I’d say he should consider it if:

    1) he knew sweet f&%k-all about what commanding military operations entailed and
    2) if he truly took “a few seconds” or even days, not weeks of delays while he galavants about the countryside campaigning (what he does best) for his health care initiatives.

Funny how this “Graveyard of Empires” was the “real war we should be fighting post-9/11” when Bush was President and now that Obama is in office, it’s not important enough even to make a decision on troop levels.
