Dear [Iron Mike],
Thank you for contacting me regarding Solicitor General Elena Kagan’s nomination to the United States Supreme Court. As always, I value your input on all issues and appreciate hearing from you.
In recent years, I have been concerned that Supreme Court confirmation hearings have become increasingly partisan and politicized. This has not served our country well. I will approach the nomination of Solicitor General Kagan with the same independence that I approach every vote.
Recently, when I had the opportunity to meet with Solicitor General Kagan, we discussed an array of issues related to her background and judicial philosophy. I found our meeting to be very productive. I indicated to Solicitor General Kagan that I would give her nomination fair consideration and keep an open mind as the confirmation process moves forward. The Committee on the Judiciary has scheduled her hearing to begin on June 28, 2010. While I am not a member of the Judiciary Committee, I will consider Solicitor General Kagan’s nomination with your views in mind when her nomination comes before the full Senate.
Again, thank you for sharing your thoughts with me. Should you have any additional questions or comments, please feel free to contact me or visit my website at http://scottbrown.senate.gov.
