 Arnie Duncan is a really good friend of Obama.  He ran Chicago’s miserably failing school system, where only 52% of surviving students even graduate.  So of course what better person for Obama to pick to run the $161 Billion US Dept of Education?

   Old Soldier, – Still Good for Parts!

For the moment I won’t say which town.  It doesn’t really matter for the meat of this story.  I came early and took my customary seat in the back.  Many who came in were of my generation,  men and women in their sixties, many former Democrats – totally pissed at how their old party has been hijacked.  Former Republicans are equally pissed at how wussy and RiNO their party has become.  They don’t trust them anymore and they’re tired of holding their noses.

They are lifetime regular voters,  and had assumed they were doing what was expected of a good citizen.  All their lives they’d worked hard,  raised their families, minded their own business, voted, and trusted their government, even when the other party was in control for four years.  Not now!

These people are scared and angry, and fighting mad.  They’re watching the nation they helped build and protect being deliberately weakened and ruthlessly destroyed.   For the first time in their lives they’ve become activists, – writing letters, emailing congressmen, protesting, donating to candidates, and talking politics to friends, co-workers, and neighbors.

They’re genuinely afraid of this president,  and they’re totally bullshit at their congressmen.  Many are former military – and proud of it.  All had military service in their families.  They have borne the cost of Freedom, and now see that Freedom slipping into socialism.  But they have a lot of fight left in them, and they’re organizing.

There was a mentor there – an apostle from an established TEA Party – to guide them over the initial rocks.  His guidance was almost word-for-word lifted from my handout.  [Great minds . . . ]  The few words I spoke at the end simply reinforced his. 

There were thirty people there – not eight.  They’ll meet again next Wednesday,  - they’ll draft a mission statement, adopt an interim charter,  select leaders.  They’ll have a web site up and running,  they’ll learn to use the new media, – and soon enough they’ll take to the streets.  They get it, – they understand how important it is to win in November.  They will fight shoulder-to-shoulder as a unit to retake their Young Republic.  It’s going to be a really bad year for incumbents. 

Hey Pelosi, – I watched “Astroturf” growing last night.  Your Politboro’s days are numbered.

With all the FDA laws and regulations,  Congress won’t let us buy food,  clothing,  or medicine this way.   The labels always have to contain the ingredients,  and warnings about side effects.   Some items must come in child-proof containers.

Deer-in-the Headlights

Incumbent Deval Patrick [and discarded Obama BFF] is held in such wide disregard that finding one of his old bumper stickers [normally on a rusting Volvo or a Prius] is like finding an Indian arrowhead or a dinosaur bone.  He’s having so much trouble finding money that while Nancy Pelosi was in town last Friday, – rather than be cornered into writing a check,  - he went down to NYC trying to suck up a little Neuw Yawk Liberal cash.

$12.8 B-b-billion?

Dem turned “Independent” Treasurer Tim Cahill is also not feeling any love up here.  Maybe that’s because under his watch our state pension fund sank by 23.6% – $12.8 Billion last year. That’s what people used to call “an albatross around his neck”.  After awhile, the smell of the dead bird becomes overpowering.  Should’a listened to G. Gordon Liddy Tim – and bought gold!  Tim’s been $$$ hunting down in New York too.  Do you thing there may be a cartel down there with a plan to buy our governorship?

Always his Own Man

 Renegade Republican Christy Mihos just had to push the reset button on his campaign. Grizzled campaign manager Joe Manzoli has pulled out – at least for the moment, -and Christy has been interviewing potential replacements.  Their differences involve $$$ and scheduling, and may be patched over in the next few weeks.  There is time, but Christy needs groundswell support and cash.  I’ve watched him with crowds, and his message gets across.  The problem is reaching enough people over the noise of the freight train.

Inexplicably Unvetted

The runaway freight train is the Charlie Baker / Richard Tisei team, which at first glance looks like a campaign manager’s or a marketing manager’s dream team.  At first glance.  And Baker seems to be raking in the bucks. Think maybe some backers are betting that a version of ObamaCare is about to become the law of the land?  That would suit Charlie.

Unfortunately for Mass Republicans – and the rest of the voters,  Party Chair Barbie never vetted Baker. She’s been actively backing him – with party $$.  And in his arrogance,  Baker never vetted Tisei before he announced him as his running mate.  Both men are [or should be] holding their breaths hoping that secrets remain hidden.  Or maybe they figure they can ride out a tsunami when it comes. It’s my guess they’re counting on the understaffed, under powered, and under motivated Boston Glob to keep looking the other way.  I mean, what could possibly cause the Glob to start acting line a real newspaper now?

The big question for voters is – if such a tsunami does come [I believe it will], will it wash away our Congressional candidates in this one year that we have a chance to clean house?  That’s a wicked big gamble to be taking,  just a year before we go into the usual redistricting [gerrymandering] squabbles.

Will we end up as we have in so many past elections – holding our noses and voting for the “least worst”?  And if we screw it up,  - how soon do we descend into Junk Bond status?

Just a year into her second term, lifetime teacher/social worker Shea-Porter has thoroughly outraged the highly independent and conservative NH voters she’s been misrepresenting.  She brags about voting with Obama and Pelosi over 90% of the time.  Now she’s been unable to raise enough money to buy bumper stickers.  NH money has dried up.  What to do?

Go to MoonBat Central – the Boston-Cambridge area and plead the Cause!  Maddam Speaker will come work her magic spells, and the checkbooks will come flying out, and she’ll get to vote for Socialism for another term. 

So at taxpayer expense, the Speaker arrived at the Liberty Hotel – formerly known as the Charles Street Jail – to save her drowning sock puppet.  And there were those damned TEA Party people – giving her hell and causing the Botox to get all wrinkly.

We won’t know until Shea-Porter files her quarterly report with the FEC,  but from the paltry scattering of wealthy liberals I observed, – this event barely paid for Pelosi’s armored SUV.   People slipped in hoping to be unnoticed, and were visibly slinking away when it was over.  Body language and posture tells a lot, – these were not proud defiant liberals.  Even Mass Gov Duh-val Patrick was out of town – down in NYC begging for Socialist $$$.   Just two dozen activist TEA Partiers were enough to totally ruin a good lunch.

As a person, Delahut’s a nice enough guy.  But he’s been a pretty lefty loon in Congress, always carping against the Iraq war – even when we were winning.  In ‘05 he made a deal for low-cost heating oil with Hugo Chavez.  We’re still not sure what Chavez gets in return.  You’ll note his district include The South Shore and Cape Cod – including the famous Gay vacation retreat Provincetown – at the very tip of Cape Cod.  Delahunt’s constitutions were always liberal – until Jan 19th – the election of Scott Brown.  They went for Scott big time - 60% – the widest margin in the state.  Did Bill hear the Ghost of Christmas Future?

Then on February 19^th,  an old ghost came back to haunt former District Attorney Delahunt.  A whacked out professor wannabe named Amy Bishop shot six people at the University of Alabama Huntsville, – killing three of them.  We soon learn her trouble past had [almost] crossed DA Delahunt’s back in ’86.   

Back in ’86 it now seems that Ms. Amy was acting out a weird fantasy when she fired a shotgun three times, killing her brother in Braintree.  She then ran next door to an auto body shop and hijacked a car at gunpoint.  Somehow…somehow…Delahunt never prosecuted?  Somehow it was ruled “an accident“?  Too bad, those dead folks in Alabama would be at work today. 

Earlier today it was announced that Massachusetts Unemployment has jumped to 9.5% – 329,000 unemployed.  Where are those Stimulus jobs Nancy promised??!?   The final nail in Delahunt’s coffin was driven back in August ’09 – when his mentor and skyhook Ted Kennedy finally croaked.  Time for the 68-year old 10-term Liberal to pack it in and collect his pensions.  One less MoonBat in Pelosi’s Bat Cave!  Bye Bill!

PS:  Now let’s see if RFK Grandson Joseph P. Kennedy III will change his mind again and run for the 10th.

Massa seems like an ideal man to represent his Upstate NY district.  A 1981 Annapolis grad, with 24 years on active duty, married w/ kids, cancer survivor, friend of and veteran of General Wesley “Weasel” Clark’s failed presidential bid, he strongly opposed the Iraq war, – actually changing parties from Republican to Democrat.  He campaigned as a centrist Democrat and narrowly defeated two-term Republican Randy Kuhl 51%/49% in a recounted election. 

But the Halls of Congress are not the passageways of a navy ship.  The rules are different – or so they must have seemed to this freshman congressman.  Graft, corruption, deals, and intrigue swirled around him.  Something inside him must have felt liberated.  There was this person – a junior staffer – a male junior staffer.  Just a year into his term,  Eric made his advances.  It seems they were unwanted.  He must have been very persistent.

So his Asst Chief of Staff filed a complaint with the House Ethics Committee – the same group who just found Charlie Rangel guilty.  I guess standards of acceptable gay behavior have changed since the days that Gerry Studds was doing underage pages.  Thus we have Massa’s announcement yesterday that he wouldn’t seek re-election “doctors have told him that he can’t continue to “run at 100 miles an hour.”  He’ll take his Congressional Pension and go home to Corning and try to explain things to Beverly and the kids. 

Don’t Ask – Don’t Tell Works!

My whole point in posting this entry is to point out that our current military policy of “Don’t ask, don’t tell!” has been working just fine!   For 28 years [4 at the academy, 24 on active duty] Navy Midshipman and Navy Officer Massa was constrained from overt behavior by the UCMJ.   Suddenly free of that constraint,  and it’s punishments – and in an atmosphere of “anything goes” – he acted out. 

Had this happened aboard ship – or really anywhere in the Navy,  there would have been an expensive and time consuming investigation.  Unit and ship morale would have suffered, and unit / ship discipline and combat effectiveness would have been undermined.  ANY reduction in combat effectiveness could cost lives, engagements, battles, and the outcome of wars. 

ANY easing of “Don’t ask – don’t Tell!” is an unacceptable risk to our troops, and to our national security.  Eric Massa just proved my case!   Good luck with Beverly Eric.  She saw you through a naval career and cancer, ~ maybe ~ she’ll stick with you.  Maybe.  But maybe she’ll want a $65K /year deal to put up with you – or set you free. 

The poor voters of the NY 29^th!  First a shotgun wielding drunk,  then their whore-chasing governor, then their drug-addicted cheating replacement governor,  now a predatory gay congressman.   Eric, why didn’t you just go after Barney?
