Concord, MA Saves the Planet!

Posted May 29th, 2010 by Jim Ettwein

Yes, folks, the headline is correct. Concord, MA, in an effort to “save the only planet we have” has banned the sale of water bottles in the town. I’m sure that this is all it will take to save us (wait, isn’t Obama supposed to save us?) So, starting in 2011, it will be illegal to buy bottled water in Concord, MA.

One can imagine a resurgence of this prohibition style ban. Speakeasies forming in neighborhoods and town centers. Men in raincoats on the street offering “black market water” to citizens gasping for their next quaff. New Oases opening up on the town borders offering the now-banned clear liquid for sale to Concordians who just “need a drink”. Water, of course.

So, does the Poland Spring driver, who normally delivers those big 6 gallon bottles to homes and businesses, now have to take alternate routes past this former “cradle of liberty?” I guess so.

I don’t know about you, but I’m going to purposely take my empty water bottles with me in the car. When I drive through Concord, MA I’m going to stop at Dunkin’ or Starbucks… and each time I’ll deposit an empty or two in their trash bin as I purchase some coffee. Just a small effort from one man to strike a blow for freedom in America. (You know I’m kidding, right? I don’t have time for this inanity.)

One wonders if the town thinks that people who now have to stop buying water in bottles won’t just switch to iced tea, soda, or, gasp, lemonade. I guess these bottles don’t pollute as much so the problem will go away. 🙂 rr
