Arresting Reporters In DC

Nothing says ‘corruption’ like

Washington DC City Government!

Today DC is considering a money-making scheme – to reduce some 9000 independent taxi drivers to just 4000 ‘Medallion’ drivers.

DC cabbies are already in a bind – stuck at $1.50 / mile for over two decades – gas prices going up, and they are not represented [as required] on the 8-person Taxicab Commission. They’ve been protesting, and Tuesday wanted to present a petition to the brand new appointed Commissioner – Dena C. Reed – during one of the required public meetings.

Watch as two reporters are arrested.

Watching this video I am eerily reminded of our attendance at Governor Patrick’s Secure Communities hearing in Framingham, where his self-important minions told us we couldn’t take pictures – and tried using the campus police to bully us.

What’s really going on here?

Potential loss of 5,000 mostly black jobs under a Democratic administration.

In Boston medallions sell [when available] for over $380K, in NYC – over $760K, – nearly $200K in Chicago. It’s a complicated and dirty business, where drivers often pay another $100K under the table ‘to get on the list’, in addition to hefty political contributions.

The medallion system purports to ‘regulate’ an otherwise unruly group of cab drivers, and attempts to weed criminals from the system. But too often the real criminals are administering the program from city hall.

A look at the DC Taxi Commission website shows utter chaos, where none of the listed commissioners are still on the board, and none of the new ones are listed. Best to keep the public in the dark.

Anybody think that either the City Attorney for DC or US Attorney General Eric Holder will be concerned about the blatant 1st Amendment violation on the video? Nah! These victims are white. The ‘authorities’ are of color.

Ms. Reed, an attorney 25 years out of Howard Law School says…?

You’ll not hear much. She’s been told to get the medallion program rolling – and get the money.

5,000 about-to-be-illegal DC cab drivers? TS! And you know they were all Obama fans! Obama’s thinking “Just three electoral votes? No sweat!

The cab drivers may have only one way to get action. All 9,000 of them may have to park their cabs at home for a week, sort of like the Montgomery Bus Boycott.

   Good luck guys!

The similarities to the Secure Communities meetings are scarry. Wonder what happened to the reporter. Do you think that the ACLU came to his rescue? DC has always been one of the cheapest cities in the US to hire a cab. Just imagine the chaos if there were no cabs to be had in Washington. The members of the Senate and Congress and Cabinet members all have their drivers so no problem for them, just the staffers.
