A Stunningly Beautiful But Sadly Inept Mayor

Posted September 30th, 2017 by Iron Mike

Once again Mother Nature delivers two things,  – a physical blow to a piece of geography,  – and a keen lesson on voting.

San Juan’s Mayor Carmen Yulín Cruz Soto must have seemed like a perfect candidate.  BA (Magna Cum Laude) in Political Science from Boston Univ,  Masters in Public Management from Carnegie Mellon, – then recruited to Westinghouse and later to Colgate Palmolive, two banks and the US Treasury.

On November 6th 2012 – she won the race for Mayor of San Juan.

If she campaigned as a fresh face and a fresh start,  – the 2017 Hurricane Season had an ugly surprise for her – and the people of the Territory.

Now she’s pissing that Trump isn’t doing enough, and Trump is pointing out that she seems to lack both leadership and the basic ability to get San Juan’s citizens motivated and organized to help themselves.

The pissing contest will likely become the news of the day – the needs of the folks will be buried on page 5.

Madame Mayor, what would you be doing for your people if there was no United States?

LESSON FOR VOTERS EVERYWHERE:  Don’t vote for the handsome or beautiful candidate,  – or for somebody like Obama or Hillary “because it’s their turn”.

Vote for the person you want in charge when the Hurricane hits,  the Earthquake hits,  or the Volcano erupts….or the Blizzard buries your state.

At RRB we’re not saying that Madame Mayor Yulín Cruz Soto is either a bad person or a corrupt politician.

She just appears to be totally overwhelmed,  – unable to do much more than complain that “Trump isn’t doing enough”.

You’d think there had never been a Hurricane come tearing through the islands in these past 400 years.  If this Mayor is inept – it it her fault – – or the fault of the voters who were beguiled by her beauty…?

THINK BEFORE YOU VOTE!

Did she expect to sit back and later hand out awards?

Admittedly, Puerto Rico has not had a hurricane this bad in quite some time. However, anyone competent does NOT kvetch and whine about someone else not doing enough – because s/he is TOO BUSY pulling together everything they can pull to help the people under authority. Then, if help does not seem to be forthcoming, send out an open plea for more aid.

I will note that government (local? federal? that I don’t know) regulations stopped at least one planeload of rescue supplies from coming in – at least temporarily.

Mayor Sotc complained about a lack of supplies while standing on a dock full of supplies. Idiot with a Teamsters problem grandstanding for partisan motives.

President Trump dispatched 140 helicopters, 28 ships, 6 Army field hospitals, 3 Navy Seabee Battalions, 5 US Army Combat Engineer Battalions, 3 Civil Affairs battalions, 2 Nuclear Submarines capable of generating 2.8 Gigawatts of Power, and released 300,000 tons of food, medical supplies and water from Military stocks to Puerto Rico.

One large engineering firm based in Puerto Rico has dispatched 50 engineers to work with FEMA but the CEO refuses to work with the local government as he finds them inept and corrupt. His message to Congress-
“I have a message for the U.S. Congress: Watch out what relief funds you approve and let our local government handle. Don’t let the Puerto Rican government play the victim and fool you. They have no clue what they are doing, and I worry that they will mishandle anything that comes their way.

They don’t need another aircraft carrier. They need experienced people to run a proper disaster command center.”

    Very telling isn’t it.
