Yesterday was bad – tomorrow will be worse.
The never-ending cycle of an eye-for-an-eye, a son-for-a-son spirals on through Middle Eastern history with ever more vicious tactics, and more risk for the rest of us.
When you pit a ‘religion‘ steeped in hatred and justified killing against religions and cultures that preach love, forgiveness, and welcoming of strangers, – who loses? Usually the most vulnerable – the kids. Six were burned to death yesterday – trapped on a bus in Burgas, Bulgaria.
Today reports are of a ‘suicide bomber’ – seen on tape hanging around the Burgas Airport an hour before the attack. Allegedly ‘caucasian’ with a fake US passport and Michigan Drivers License. [Gee, why bother with a fake? Deval Patrick would have given him a real one – and an EBT Card too...]
Now will come the Israeli revenge attack. Iran is the likely culprit; so they’ll begin planning even as they wait for the rest of the evidence.
As of Thursday, the bomber is believed to be Mehdi Ghezali, a long-time terrorist wanna-be from Sweden, with travels to Punjab, Pakistan. The Swedes repeated shielded him from harsh justice. Iran ~ may ~ be off the hook on this one – for now.
Some have ventured that Burgas was Iranian reprisal for the assassinations of Iranian nuclear scientists in Tehran. Really? Kill kids in retaliation for legitimate military targets? Sadly this fits the Islamic mindset – kill off the breeding stock early – and create additional and paralyzing terror in the process.
They KNOW the Israelis will not retaliate in kind. For the most part – Iran’s kids are safe for the moment. Not so their military, their government, and their national infrastructure. Israel will make this a a powerful and thoroughly understood rebuke.
Calculation vs Miscalculation:
The ruling mob in Iran are Twelvers – Shia Muslims who reverently await the End of Days when the ‘Hidden’ or ‘Twelfth Imam’ will reveal himself, smite down all their enemies, and lead them to Paradise.
Many of them actively foment trouble to bring on Armageddon to hurry the arrival of their ‘Hidden Imam‘. They are gambling their lives that the myths are true. If they’ve miscalculated,…the Israeli retaliation strike may topple their Twelver regime. A lot of decent Iranians are tired of living in poverty at the edge of the abyss.
The Israelis are in a particularly tough position at the moment:
- To the South, Egypt has gone to hell in a handbasket, and within a year they can expect mass attacks by untrained cannon-fodder from the Sinai. It’s the only way the new Egyptians can ease internal tensions – turn their unemployed and horny youth north in a blood lust.
- Syria is coming apart to their north, while well-armed Hezbollah Twelvers await the power vacuum that will occur when the regime of President Bashar Hafez al-Assad finally comes unglued. Israel will have to keep strong ground and close support aircraft at the ready in the north.
- Their normal strong ally – the USA – is in the hands of an Israeli-hating secret Muslim – who will ONLY lift a finger to help IF it will help his own re-election.
On the Positive Side…
Both the Jordanians and the Saudis will quietly allow a massive Israeli overflight – because they too hate and fear the Twelvers. The Iraqis may have moral objections, but no air force capable of stopping it. They know that whenever it comes, they are better off playing dumb.
The Israelis have a much more capable submarine force today than they did 10 years ago, – and conveniently the US is leading a 20-ship mine-sweeping exercise right outside the Straits of Hormuz. Any Iranian ship which survives an initial air onslaught will fall victim to an Israeli submarine.
When, when, when?
Yesterday’s suicide bombing came on the 18th anniversary of a murderous bombing of Israeli Citizens and Argentinian Jews in Buenos Aires.
I fully expect the Israeli planners to use the calendar to their own advantage, both militarily and psychologically. I think the Iranians should tighten their pucker factor during the Obama acceptance speech in Charlotte, and/or during any Obama/Romney debates.
Anything that both accomplishes a mighty smite upon the Twelvers, ~ and embarrasses our undocumented pretender works fine by me!
Meanwhile, if I were a foreigner in Iran, – I’d wind up my business and depart soonly. Airfields there may soon be inoperable.

Old Soldier, – Still Good for Parts!
And yes, the Twelvers are going to be humiliated by a bunch of teenage girls!
