UPDATE: The state has gone back on its decision. Public pressure prevailed and the message got out. It’s a win-win for all… for those who support the flag, and for those who wish to fly it in Wrentham. See this report from WCVB about the decision. http://www.wcvb.com/news/local/boston-south/State-Wrentham-housing-complex-residents-may-fly-the-U-S-flag/-/9848842/15488466/-/9rhfvq/-/index.htmlA state official has told Wrentham public housing residents that they indeed can fly the American flag.
In a statement issued Thursday, Jason Lefferts a spokesman for the Department of Housing and Community Development said, “We were not aware of this decision (to ban the U.S. flags) when it was made, and it was a mistake that is being corrected immediately. ”
“Department of Housing and Community Development policy for local housing authorities includes not allowing displays of private materials in public areas. This does not extend to respectful and safe displays of the American flag,” Lefferts said.

This amazing statement was made by a resident of public housing in Wrentham. Housing that we pay for. Housing that they don’t pay for.
Yet, one resident said, on Independence Day, said, “That flag offends me, take it down.” So, the management of the housing project did the wrong thing. They issued an order to ALL residents to remove their flags from public display.
As the Commander of the American Legion in Acton, I’m pissed! Who do these people think they are? Not only the management of the place, that take paychecks from our tax money, but the resident who thinks he can dictate freedom of speech and patriotism in a place he gets by appealing to our charity.
I’m not going to take it. You shouldn’t either. I called Jeff Katz at Talk 1200 this morning and expressed my dismay at this situation. I volunteered to show up with others to demonstrate such dismay and defiance of this ruling. Jeff may try to get a group together to go there and demonstrate.
Whether he does, or not, I’m going. Watch this space for more info. If Jeff organizes it, listen to his show or see his facebook for more info. If not, I’ll post a notice here about when to show up.
With all respect and honor to America,

Wrentham has public housing? I’m glad to see that everybody gets free stuff, now.
