This is a good news / bad news story.
The good news is that the kids at Acton-Boxborough High have done some impressive work to reduce electrical use, saved a bunch of money [$70K], started a worthy recycling of lunch waste, and won an award. Today they received that award from Eco-Schools USA.
The BAD NEWS is that the faculty seems to have turned a worthy project into a cult-like religion, and the politicians all showed up today for their photo-op.
There was Selectman Gowing, State Rep Jen Benson, State Senator JamieBoy Eldridge, and Massachusetts’ own stupidest grandmother – Congresswoman Niki Tsongas, looking just frazzled and exhausted from her trip to the Nashua River yesterday.
For some reason we were treated to a juggling act instead of the Pledge of Allegiance. I restrained myself – mightily.
There seemed to be only about 100 people in attendance.
Ms. Liz Soper of Eco-Schools droned on seemingly for hours about this was only the 4th Green Flag ever awarded in the USA. I wondered how many schools are really bothering.
Then Niki got to speak, and get her photo-op. I’m sure we’ll see that picture throughout the Fall Campaign. Then even before JamieBoy was introduced – she snuck out the side door. Can’t blame her – I was already bored stiff. AND, she can’t collect checks in a school building.
JamieBoy was his usual boring self. Then as he closed he could restrain himself no longer – he did his best Al Gore imitation: “the Earth is melting, the Earth is melting, – the polar bears are dying!”
Jen Benson was brief. She spoke about money. Good thing Tsongas didn’t hear her talk about balancing budgets – even school budgets. But Tsongas was G-O-N-E-!
I’d confronted Jen earlier, asking about the number of jobs which have left Massachusetts since she first took office. She had no clue.
So the kids are to be congratulated for their zeal and their work.
BUT, somebody needs to give them a few lessons on reality.
The Earth ISN’T melting, the polar bears aren’t dying, and Michael Mann falsified his tree-ring research data for over 20 years!
And Acton-Boxborough Educators and Liberals better do a little research on the evils of UN Agenda 21. So far these communities, their parents and their school kids are falling for it hook, line, and sinker. And the SAD PART is that most of them are marching in lockstep – without ever having heard of Agenda 21.
The World Socialists won the battle today.
